KEY WEST, Fla. - The 38th annual Hemingway Days festival celebrating both the late author's literary accomplishments and his colorful Key West lifestyle, takes place Tuesday through Sunday, July 17-22, 2018. Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote on the island for most of the 1930s. Special parties planned around June 21, the Nobel Prize winner’s 119th birthday, center on Sloppy Joe’s Bar, a watering hole frequented by the author.
Events during the festival include the famous Hemingway Look-Alike Contest, prose and poetry readings, Saturday’s “Running of the Bulls” with manmade bull replicas, a symposium featuring guest of honor Cristen Hemingway Jaynes, Ernest's great-granddaughter, a film evening, a look-alike part on Hemingway's birthday, running and paddleboarding challenges, a street fair and a high-stakes three-day marlin tournament recalling Hemingway’s passion for deep sea fishing in the Florida Keys. More than 125 bearded “Papa” impersonators are expected to compete in the look-alike contest which lasts all weekend.
