Members of the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) will testify before the House Small Business Committee and Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee Oct. 30-31. In its first hearing focused solely on outdoor recreation, titled “Force of Nature: The Power of Small Businesses in America’s Recreational Infrastructure,” the House committee will hear testimony from ORR witnesses, including three members who own small businesses and an expert industry economist. The witnesses will discuss the newly released Bureau of Economic Analysis state reports on the impact of the outdoor recreational industry and the importance of infrastructure investment.
The following day, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hear testimony in support of two ORR priority bills, the Recreation Not Red-Tape Act (S. 1967) and the Simplifying Outdoor Access for Recreation Act (S. 1665). According to a letter sent to the Senate committee by the ORR, the bills offer sensible, 21st-century proposals to better manage outdoor assets and improve outfitter and guide permitting systems. Both hearings are open to the public and will be live-streamed on the House and Senate websites.
