PORTLAND, Ore. -- Freightliner Trucks, a division of Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), debuted two fully electrified commercial vehicles, a Freightliner eCascadia heavy-duty truck and a Freightliner eM2 106 medium-duty truck, during the Daimler Trucks Capital Market and Technology Day. Freightliner also announced plans for an Electric Innovation Fleet of 30 vehicles later this year for testing by customers under real-world operating conditions.
“These innovative trucks reflect DTNA’s commitment to bring practical, game-changing technology to market,” Roger Nielsen, president and chief executive officer of DTNA, said in a press release. Martin Daum, a member of the Daimler Board of Management for trucks and buses, added, “With the foundation of the global electric mobility group, we maximize the impact of our investments in this key strategic technology field. Thus, we can go for the best solutions in batteries, charging solutions and energy management.”
Daimler Trucks leads manufacturers in North America with the widest range of commercial electric vehicle models. The eCascadia and eM2 join the Thomas Built Buses all-electric Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley school bus and the FUSO eCanter. Later in 2018, they will be joined by a fully electric Mercedes-Benz Citaro and Mercedes-Benz eActros, a fully electrified heavy-duty distribution truck.
