NewsOK Reports On The Impact The Outdoor Economy Has On Jobs & Consumer Spending In OK & What The OIA Proposes To Maintain Growth
Outdoor recreation in Oklahoma has been growing and there are statistics to prove it. According to a report by the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), 97,000 jobs in consists of outdoor rec arena and it annually generates $10.6 billion in consumer spending and $663 million in state and local tax revenue.
NewsOK writer Ed Godfrey relays in his article: "A report by the OIA concluded that 64 percent of Oklahoma's 11.61 million residents participate in some form of outdoor recreation each year." Furthermore, the OIA lays out a few measures to state lawmakers to help facilitate more growth of outdoor recreation. For example, one thing the state can do is fund state and local parks and trails so that people will have a reason to get outdoors.
