AUGUSTA, Maine - Beginning Aug. 11, residents of the state of Maine can visit most parks in the state system for free through Labor Day, Sept. 3. The free admission applies only to day use, and does not affect camping fees. Maine’s governor announced the Resident Fee Holiday in response to public support for the state park system.
"Maine State Parks and Historic Sites have experienced record-breaking attendance in recent years," Maine Governor Paul LePage said in a press release. "Our park staff have worked very hard to enhance the visitor experience with new offerings, year-round events and educational programs for all ages. This is our way of saying thank you to the Maine people.”
Not all state parks are included in the program, but many popular destinations are, including Camden Hills, Popham Beach, Quoddy Head, Rangeley Lake, Reid, Mount Blue, and Two Lights with its twin lighthouses (all named among the best state parks in Maine by New England Today), as well as many more favorites such as Aroostook, Cobscook Bay, Sebago Lake, Birch Point, Bradbury Mountain, Grafton Notch State Park and Wolfe's Neck Woods.
