Black Hills Pioneer Reports On Beloved 5th-Grade Teacher Pam Gillespie's Retirement And Plans To Enjoy More Traveling Around The Country
Pam Gillespie has decided to move on to the next adventure in life as she retires from Spearfish Creekside Elementary in South Dakota. One thing on her list of activities after she leaves the school is to go on more adventures and travel more with here husband. Esteemed by the faculty and students at Creekside, there is no question that she is going to be missed. After being in education for 31 yeas, Pam has taught so much life lessons to the children in her class.
Black Hills Pioneer writer Kaija Swisher interviewed Pam, who spoke on what she felt was most important for the kids: "Building those relationships with the kids is what’s really important,” she said. “Sometimes those kids need someone to listen to them more than they need to know math facts or history lessons." Pam was an adventurer herself, and she involved this in her classroom. "Gillespie started the tradition of walking her students to the Spearfish City Campground at the end of the year, and bicycling with her students."
