News Blip: Jungle Island Of Miami Will Remodel
Miami Herald Reports On 81-Year-Old Florida Attraction Seeking A New Identity And More Visitors Via An Adventure-Based Make Over
Jungle Island is a decades old animal park attraction beginning in Pinecrest, FL. It has been through many ups and downs over the years. Now, as president of the park, John Dunlap soon will see the small lake transform into a tributary feeding a two-acre, crystal-clear lagoon for swimming, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and more. The renovation will be the second metamorphosis for the nearly 81-year-old park. The Phase One attractions, the zip lines and lagoon, are expected to be in place in 2019.
Miami Herald writer Chabeli Herrera relays in his article: "Dunlap’s plan may be what finally reignites Jungle Island. It is, tourism experts say, likely the park’s best chance to prove its value as an important tourist draw." The park is in need of a new concept and more annual visitors to fix it's money issues. Speaking with Rolando Aedo, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, Herrera reports on what he had to say about what Miami needs: "At the end of the day, what a tourism organization like us wants is content and attractions and new things. That’s what folks seek out."
