VICKSBURG, Miss. - The Army Corps of Engineers' Vicksburg District will re-open six boat ramps operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers located within the Columbia Pool by Nov. 27 as a result of rainfall and increases in Ouachita River stages. River stages will be closely monitored and the ramps may be closed again should stages fall to low levels that would threaten public safety or create damage to personal watercraft.
According to a press release, the ramps that will be re-opened include Prairion, Bawcomville, Moon Lake, Sterlington, Finch Bayou and Felsenthal South. Riverton boat ramp, just upstream of Columbia Lock and Dam, will remain closed due to low water levels. River stages will be closely monitored and the ramps may be closed again should stages fall to low levels that would threaten public safety or create damage to personal watercraft. The seven boat ramps were closed in July 2018 due to the lowering of water levels within the pool in order to address emergency seepage repairs at Columbia Lock and Dam. Columbia Lock and Dam remains closed to traffic as repair work is ongoing. The Corps is the largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation in the nation. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana.
