Tourists Trapped By Flash Floods In Zion National Park
Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved and first published through Deseret News Utah's website.
SPRINGDALE, Utah - The Deseret News reports that three inches of rain caused several rock slides in Zion National Park last Wednesday, with more rain expected as the monsoon season cranks up. Many trails and roads in the park and the surrounding region are washed out or blocked by debris, trapping visitors in the park.
The Zion-Mount Carmel Highway is closed indefinitely between Canyon Junction and the park's East Entrance. Zion’s free shuttle on Scenic Drive is running up to Big Bend, but is blocked farther on, with most trails closed. The Kolob Canyons district of Zion remains closed for an ongoing 7-month construction project affecting Kolob Canyons Road, the Kolobs Visitor Center, and parking lots along I-15. Visitors should check the park’s Twitter feed @ZionNPS for current closures, flash flood warnings and other updates. For additional information, visit the park’s website.
