SOLEDAD, Calif. - KION, a news channel in Soledad, reports that city officials have decided the best use for an abandoned stagecoach stop, said to be haunted, is a new campground/RV park on the land so visitors can experience the ghosts first hand. Locals told KION that the Los Coches Adobe building is known as a hotbed of paranormal activity. Built in 1843, the old building served as a Wells Fargo Station Agent office, post office, stagecoach stop, and popular inn for passengers on the Bixby Overland Stage, running between San Francisco and Los Angeles through the Salinas Valley from 1854 until 1868. Travelers continued to visit from 1872 to 1886 when the town was the terminus for the railroad line from San Francisco. The building along Highway 101 has been abandoned for several decades and was featured on the Travel Channel's hit series "Ghost Adventures."
In addition to the new RV park, the City of Soledad plans to renovate Los Coches Adobe to house a visitor’s center for the Monterey Peninsula as well as a museum with exhibits exploring the site’s history as the terminus of the railroad and coach line. No date has been set for the completion of the project.
