WEST GLACIER, Mon. -- A new 102-space campground, the West Glacier RV & Cabin Village, has received final approval after the Montana Department of Environmental Quality signed off on a final Environmental Assessment for water and wastewater facilities, according to a report by KPAX, a news outlet serving the western Montana region. The new campground is located through the west entrance of Glacier National Park off River Bend Road right before the West Glacier Motel that intersects Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Flathead County commissioners unanimously voted to grant approval to Glacier Park, Incorporated (GPI) to build the 102-space RV park and Cabin Village off River Bend Drive in West Glacier in May of 2017, following review of a traffic study. Twenty-five rental cabins are also part of the development. To help deal with road congestion, one of the conditions of approval by Flathead County Commissioners requires GPI to construct a paved path from the RV Park to the town center at West Glacier. GPI also operates the Apgar Village Lodge and Motel Lake McDonald within Glacier National Park.
