BRADENTON, Fla. â The Bradenton Times reports that Manatee County Commissioners have approved a rezoning request that will allow the Linger Lodge RV Park to expand and upgrade its facilities, despite objections from an adjacent landowner. The rezoning and development plan allows park owners to add an additional 40 RV sites bringing the total to 144 total sites, and to add new facilities, including a check-in office, maintenance building, manager’s residence, restrooms, a laundry, and a clubhouse to the recreational amenities.
Established on the Braden River back in 1945, the Linger Lodge offers visitors a taste of Old Florida. Originally a fishing and canoeing resort, the property today includes a kayak launch and boat ramp, in addition to full hookup RV campsites set along the river and under the live oaks. It’s also home to a unique eatery, called “one of the most unusual restaurants in the world” by Forbes.com, thanks to a previous owner, a taxidermist, who filled the Linger Lodge Restaurant with preserved examples of native Florida wildlife. The menu includes many old Florida fishcamp dishes, including frog legs, gator bites, catfish and fried green tomatoes.
