GERING, Ark. - Students from from Bluffs Middle School gather around the Panhandle and enjoyed a field trip to the Wildcat Hills early this May where they participated in various hands-on activities. During their 40 minutes at the tomahawk station, the students showcased their skills throwing tomahawks at a wooden board. “It’s harder than it looks,” substitute teacher Jessica Scott said in the Star Herald article. “It’s easy to try too hard. It’s about more form and less force.”
According to the article, there was also a station to learn archery, where students learned how to properly hold a bow and arrow before aiming at a target. After having the opportunity to learn a new skill, when you know what you’re doing, it’s definitely more fun,” said one participant. This is the 10th year the Wildcat Hills has hosted the outdoor education program, which Amanda Filipi, an outdoor education specialist with Nebraska Game an Parks, said seeks to get youth involved in outdoor activities.
