The first new state park campground on the California coast in 30 years is expected to feature ocean frontage on Monterey Bay when it opens in 2022. Fort Ord Dunes State Park has 4 miles of ocean beach on the bay and is located near Marina. The campground will add 98 new campsites to the California State Park system and public camping opportunities along the coast of Monterey Bay. One is the RV campground area and will contain 45 RV campsites with electrical and water hookups and is capable of accommodating large RVs The traditional camping area is comprised of 43 traditional tent campsites." The former military unit opened 10 years ago with little supporting infrastructure and is one of a handful of state parks providing free parking and access. a hike, bike, and walk-in camping area will have 10 walk-in or bike-in style campsites, each accessible from the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail and a designated parking area within the campground.To read more on the new state park, click here.
