Rockport Texas Council Extends RV Park Moratorium - Again
Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved and first published through The Rockport Pilot's website.
The Rockport Pilot reports that the Rockport City Council has extended a moratorium on the submission, acceptance, processing, and approval of plans related to recreational vehicle parks within the city limits by an additional 120 days. The moratorium has been in effect since Aug. 14, 2018, when the city council was inundated with requests to develop RV parks following Hurricane Harvey, and has been extended several times since. Rockport, a town on the Gulf Coast of Texas, experienced a direct hit from the 2017 hurricane and suffered extensive damage that displaced many of its residents.
The city is working on a comprehensive master plan, which will address the “ground rules” for developing an RV park in the city, among other issues. Public Works Director Mike Donoho told the Pilot that the moratorium is needed until the comprehensive plan is completed, and is quoted as saying: “We’ll never say, ‘Absolutely no more RV Parks.’” No word yet on whether the master plan will be finished by the end of the current 120 day moratorium.
