News Blip: Turkey Hunting Gone Wrong
The Wichita Eagle Reports On A Serious Accident In Southeast Kansas In Which Two Men Were Mistaken As The Hunt By Friend
Turkey hunting involves stealth, quiet, and patience. Having multiple people hunting in the same field can lead to a disaster. In the case of Kenneth Dienst, Gary Dienst and Justin Wiles, disaster came in the form of shotgun pellets to the face. Gary Dienst and Justin Wiles were the victims shot by brother and friend Kenneth during which each party thought the other was seeing a live turkey. A mistake that many could have made, Kenneth mistakenly took the victims' fanning movement, or holding a preserved tail to attract the turkey, as the real thing and made the decision to shoot.
Wichita Eagle writer Michael Pearce relates in his article: Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism game warden Jim Bussone said problems began when Gary Dienst and Wiles returned to the property where Kenneth Dienst was hunting without telling him they were there. This is a major problem due to the fact that while hunting one's reality does become misconstrued from excitement.
