Learning Outside is a program in Chapel Hill, NC, that takes kindergarten students outside to teach them about nature. Not only do they get a chance to have fun and explore, but being outside has been proven to reduce the risk of obesity in kids, as well as higher their test scores in school.
As The Washington Times writer Madison Iszler quotes in her article: “We have this amazing natural world and we all need to be caretakers of it,” Banning said. “Children are the future of this world. They’re going to be the future custodians of nature, and in order to be good stewards, they first need to have a relationship with nature.”
