News Blip: Beware Of Online Reviews For Outdoors Excursions
CTV Vancouver Reports On North Shore Rescue's Growing Concern That Hikers Are Not Being Properly Informed About The Dangers Present In Canadian Wilderness
Mother Nature is a timeless beauty yet unforgiving all the same. Knowing what obstacles to avoid and the best times to explore the outdoors is key in staying safe, while also enjoying an excursion. Take the Canadian wilderness as an example. North Shore Rescue (NSR) team has recently noticed a rise in rescue calls for adventurers exploring mountain trails in Vancouver and realized they were misinformed about the conditions of the area. A likely culprit: online reviews and posts on social media and blogs.
CTV Vancouver writer Michele Brunoro relates in her article: "Pictures can be deceiving, a local rescue group warns, saying that inexperienced hikers may be led to trails that are too difficult or dangerous after seeing posts online." NSR is actvely trying to make bloggers and social influencers aware there posts affect the safety of their audiences. NSR posted on their Facebook page requesting they include outdoor safety information and links to more resources in their posts.
