News Blip: At The Cutting Edge Of Outdoor Recreation
The Salt Lake Tribune Reports On The City Of Ogden And Its Outdoor Companies Building Relationships With Major European Countries
Ogden, in Utah, has established itself as a hub for outdoor recreation companies and has hosted a trade mission of companies from four European countries and signed a cooperation agreement in hopes of stimulating business between the two sides. Hopeful connections are aimed at Belgium, France, The Netherlands and the Catalonia region of Spain. Darko Technologies, owned by Layne Christensen, is a wind tunnel company in Ogden and one company involved in this movement. “I talked quite a bit with a Belgian cycling company that has its own wind tunnel,” said Christensen, referring to Ridley.
Salt Lake Tribune writer Mike Gorrell spoke with Belgian businessman and relays what he had to say: “You skate where the puck goes, and the puck still goes to the United States,” said Werner Couck, a Belgian who led the delegation from the EU4Sports Clusters Alliance. When asked if President Donald Trump’s antipathy to other U.S. trade agreements might hinder connections between Ogden and the EU4Sports Clusters Alliance, Quinton van Loggerenberg of Belgium’s Bioracer was quoted saying, "Your president is not doing America any great favors...We’re looking to work with the people of America, who have been uniformly welcoming."
