The Gainesville Sun Reports On Veteran Matthew Burke Who Focuses On Finding Peace In Life And Helping Others
Florida veteran, Matthew Burke, has been focusing his time finding peace in farming and helping others discover that same peace and purpose. Burke served in four deployments, including Afghanistan, Kurdistan, Oman, Kuwait. He now started a nonprofit called 10 CAN and is the commander of American Legion in Newberry, Florida.
As The Gainesville Sun writer Meryl Kornfield relates in her article: "Burke teaches other veterans how to take care of plants and start their own farm and hopes someday to start a national program to encourage veterans to farm. “The idea is to combat poverty through veteran farmers,” he said. Burke believes that growing plants and being outdoors offer great emotional benefits. “You can get the same joy as growing a single plant as growing a whole farm,” he said."
