NEWS BLIP: THANKSGIVING COME EARLY
Globe Gazette Reports On Turkey Hunting 7 Year-Old Natalie Washburn Taking On 24-lb Turkey With Her Father In Iowa Outdoors
Iowa DNR Conservation Officer Matt Washburn is teaching his daughter early how to hunt. Specifically, the two enjoy turkey hunting. 7 year-old Natalie Washburn has bagged 2 turkeys so far. Her second, highlighted in this article, was her biggest and best. The gobbler weighed in at 24-lbs and sported a 10-inch beard. Iowa is big on hunting, with deer, turkey, pheasant, and game birds being quite popular. Natalie experienced much thrill and excitement with her encounter as the turkey was loud and visibly upset with the decoys set in place.
According to writer Lowell Washburn, also Natalie's grandfather, in an article inside the Globe Gazette, "Arriving at the decoys, the angry gobbler lost no time in delivering severe punishment to the plastic jake. The one-sided battle continued until the decoy was on its side and being pounded into the sod." After it all, Natalie found a clear shot, aimed and connected. Natalie and her father were very pleased with their turkey hunting excursion. Natalie reported, “When I shot, Dad was so excited that he just tipped the blind over and I ran out to my turkey. That was pretty much our hunt. Everything was so exciting that I didn’t even get to eat any of my food before I already shot a turkey.”
