News Blip: Airstream's R&D Lab Ramps Up Testing
Outside Interests Reports On The Progression & Innovation Of The Brand Popular For Its Vintage Travel Trailer
Airstream began with one man and a single dream. The man was Wally Byam. His dream: to build the perfect travel trailer. As you may have seen airstream is a pioneer of the aluminum style vintage travel trailers used for the RV lifestyle that are easily spotted on the road. The Airstream philosophy has always been and will always be, "Let's not make any changes -- let's make only improvements" Encouraging this idea is their new R&D lab and testing center in Ohio. Airstream recently launched the AIR (Airstream Innovation and Research) Lab, an expanded research & development center at its manufacturing plant in Jackson Center, Ohio. Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler states, “Airstream has been committed to being on the cutting edge since Wally Byam realized that the curves, aluminum and rivets used in making the sleekest aircraft were the answer to building an aerodynamic, durable travel trailer."
Outside Interests speaks on the new facility in their article, "The 22,000-square-foot facility doubles the previous space used for testing and development, and includes numerous work bays. The R&D staff has also grown to triple its previous level. That team includes engineers, designers and former production workers with deep knowledge of the product. But this group is just the tip of the innovation spear at Airstream." Customers play a key role on the Airstream innovation team. The company continues to interact with customers of their products through clubs, forums, etc. Fro example, The Vintage Airstream Club is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a series of events leading into the WBCCI International at Salem. The company often used feedback from owners of their vehicles when designing and focusing on how to improve their RVs.
