SILVER SPRING, Maryland – The American Hiking Society invites everyone who loves the outdoors to help set a world record on National Trails Day, June 1, 2019, for the most people working to improve trails on a single day. Anyone can participate by pledging to work on a trail on the Hiking Society’s website. The organization is sponsoring hundreds of events across the country on June 1, including trail projects, guided hikes, community festivals and after parties- for hikers, cyclists, equestrians, and paddlers. Participation is free and no experience is required.
“The government shutdown earlier this year had a negative impact on public lands and the trails we love, so American Hiking Society is rallying the trails community for a record-setting day of trail service,” Kate Van Waes, executive director of the American Hiking Society, said in a press release.
