2019 Season At Grand Canyon North Rim Begins May 15

GRAND CANYON, AZ – The National Park Service (NPS) has announced that the gate to the Grand Canyon’s North Rim will open on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30 a.m. At this time the Grand Canyon Lodge, offering overnight accommodations, groceries, camper services, food services, and a gas station, all NPS services, including the Visitor Center, Backcountry Information Office and campground, and the Grand Canyon Conservancy bookstore will open as well. Grand Canyon Trail Rides and other businesses on the Kaibab Plateau will also begin 2019 operations by May 15. The NPS will offer ranger-led programs daily through the season which extends to October 15, 2019, although the campground remains open until Oct. 31, and day visits can be made Nov. 1 through Dec. 1, weather permitting.
The North Rim is located 220 miles (354 km) from the South Rim, a drive of about 4.5 hours. Highlights of a visit to the area include the half-mile trail to Bright Angel Point and the North Rim Scenic Drive, which leads to spectacular views from Point Imperial and Cape Royal.
