Year Of Events Celebrate Grand Canyon Centennial

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - The Grand Canyon Conservancy and Grand Canyon National Park announced a calendar of events for the Centennial celebration of Grand Canyon National Park in 2019. Activities range from special events at the canyon to presentations in cities throughout Arizona. Events include a celebration on the actual centennial date, February 26, 2019, Wildlife Days in May, Summerfest & Star Party on the South and North Rims in June, American Indian Heritage Days in August, plus musical and theatrical performances, symposiums and presentations throughout the year. Exhibits celebrating the history and scenery of the canyon through photography include the online 100 Years of Grand and "Splendor & Spectacle: The 100-Year Journey of Grand Canyon National Park" at the Cline Library at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
"We're excited to share this milestone celebration with the millions of people who love, care for, and visit the Grand Canyon each year. The centennial is a time for reflection on the past and inspiration for the future. We honor those who have called Grand Canyon home for thousands of years while building towards a future that is inclusive and reflective of our nation," Woody Smeck, the park's acting superintendent, said in a press release.
