Truck Camper Magazine reports on the Rogue Truck Camper models introduced by Palomino RV at the Elkhart Open House this year. A new type of pop-up truck camper, designed for medium and mid-size short bed trucks, the 2020 Palomino Rogue comes in several sizes with suggested prices under $14,000. Pat Hines, Regional Sales Manager for Palomino RV, told Truck Camper that the units are aimed at adventure-minded young people, looking for an entry-level camper. Thanks to its low weight, small size, overall durability and reliability, it would be appropriate for Overland use as well. A Badlands package is available with solar, a second battery, and Thule roof rack.
The most unique feature on the Rogue is a pop-up cantilevered roof with built-in skylight and new roof lift system, based on the company’s A-frame tent camper design. Inside, the camper sleeps two on a mattress in the cab-over and an additional two on a converted dinette. A basic kitchen includes hanging pantries that can be unclipped and taken inside to load. There is a 16-gallon fresh water tank, an optional on-demand water heater, and a vertical 20-pound propane tank, but no grey or black water tanks, and no bathroom facilities. Hines describes the camper as intended for weekend getaways, with a “back-to-the-basics concept,” freeing new RVers from worries about dumping tanks or cassettes, and winterizing plumbing lines.
