The ongoing drought in North Carolina, that started in April 2016, has been having small effects on the outdoor industry of the area. Although the effects are still miniscule, people should be aware and pay attention. Henderson County, for example, has recently been listed as having severe drought. This can take a toll on fishing and other outdoor activities.
As Times-News writer Derek Lacey relates in his article: "Austin , store manager at Orvis in Asheville, said that in a nutshell, the drought has taken the area's fisheries and made them extremely difficult to fish. While people are still fishing, the drought "has put a dent in things." Opportunities to fish are smaller with the low water levels, he said, but people still get out and fish. He's heard visitors from out of town remark with surprise about how low the area's water levels are."
