SAN FRANCISCO - Goldwin, a Japanese manufacturer of high-tech outdoor apparel, announced the opening of the brand’s first retail flagship store outside of Japan, in San Francisco’s Jackson Square, the design center of that city. Goldwin’s lines of technical apparel for skiing, hiking, running, and mountaineering, as well as compression gear, are made with advanced technical fabrics and designed to look fashionable both in the outdoors and in an urban environment. Founded in 1951 as a manufacturer of knit fabrics, Tokyo-based Goldwin Inc. came to international attention in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games when the company’s apparel was worn by 80% Japanese athletes winning gold medals in gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling. The company utilizes a number of high-tech materials in its designs, including QMONOS, a synthetic spider silk; KODENSHI, a high-performance fabric that warms the body core using far-infrared rays; and nanotech-based Maxifresh Plus, an odor-reducing fabric originally developed for astronauts’ underwear. For additional information, visit the Goldwin website.
