Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved through the Great Lakes ADA Center's website.
On May 3, the U.S. Access Board will offer a free webinar on ADA and ABA requirements for accessible recreation facilities. Accessibility Specialist Bill Botten from the Board’s Office of Technical and Information Services will provide an overview of criteria for play areas, swimming pools, sports facilities, fishing piers, boating facilities, golf courses, and amusement rides. He will also answer questions posted by registrants in advance or during the webinar addressing specific concerns. Participants in the webinar may qualify for continuing education credits. The webinar is the latest in a monthly series sponsored by the U.S. Access Board in association with the ADA National Network.
New provisions in the ADA regulations cover access to trails, shared use paths, picnic and camping sites, and beaches on Federal sites. The Board is developing guidelines for non-federal outdoor sites covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and areas developed with federal grants and loans covered by the ABA (Architectural Barriers Act).
