One Boy Scout troop in Simsbury, Connecticut is fond of traveling, particularly to places boy scouts tend not to go. Scoutmaster Brad Mead of Troop 175 told the Hartfors Courant that they are unique in that they travel all over the world. There is something about being in these less traveled and extraordinary areas of the world that makes you respect other cultures and become a well-versed individual overall.
Hartford Courant writer Michael Walsh relays in his article: "Mead said the idea for a trip to Cuba came about when travel between the United States and Cuba was reinstated a few years ago." The goal was to try and revitalize Scouting in Cuba after The Cuban Revolution had ceased the programs. They weren't successful in doing that on their short April trip, but they came in contact with Pioneer Explorers, Cuba's equivalent to the Boy Scouts, and started a dialogue with them that they hope to continue.
