The Nature Conservancy reports on the recent message Canada has sent to the rest of the world . By introducing a federal price on carbon taking effect in 2019, Canada is taking action to address climate change. As the recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows, climate change is already impacting communities, the economy, and our environment, and those impacts will continue to grow and worsen if no action is taken now.
According to a press release, here is what Lynn Scarlett, Chief External Affairs Officer for The Nature Conservancy said on climate change: “Carbon taxes are just one potential solution to mitigating climate change, and as a member of the international Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition, we support the enhanced dialogue around carbon pricing without endorsing specifics of any individual carbon tax or dividend proposal. We remain open to how best to design such policies and continue to believe there are a range of options for a price on carbon to reduce emissions. We are committed to working with a wide array of stakeholders to identify solutions that can garner support in countries and communities around the world.” More info on what The Nature Conservancy does can be found on their website.
