City Beat, a local news outlet for the Cincinnati region, reports that three chefs from top local restaurants are inviting campers to an event dubbed the Red River Gorge Yourself, scheduled for Nov. 2-4, 2018. To be held at the Wilhoit & Taylor Recreational Preserve, a gated region in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge, part of the Daniel Boone National Forest, Gorge Yourself combines wilderness camping with a gourmet food experience. With foodie culture and camping two of the hottest trends today, the idea is sure to spawn many imitators around the country.
Local chefs Elias Leisring of Eli's BBQ, Jackson Rouse of Bauer Farm Kitchen and Christian Gill of Boomtown Biscuits & Whiskey will cook over a campfire to prepare gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner for guests. Non-foodie activities available include the use of the preserve’s private climbing routes and hiking trails, plus caving and exploring. Guests need to provide their own camping, climbing and hiking equipment. Tickets are $100 for the weekend, Friday evening to Sunday morning.
Reservations and more information can be found on the Wilhoit & Taylor Recreational Preserve Facebook page.
