ALANSON, Mich. - Emmet County staff have been in the process of relocating 16 campsites on the southeast corner of Camp Petosega campground to a new section of the property. The primary portion of that work was done around November, but crews have been working throughout the winter months to finish Phase II of the project. An issue with an existing pipeline running underneath the campground being in the way initiated the project launch. Phase II includes electrical, plumbing, concrete and masonry work associated with a restroom and utility building that will accommodate the new sites. Photos accompanying Calabrese’s report show a nearly completed building. As quoted in a press lease on Petoskynews.com, “Obviously it’s difficult working out there with the snow and conditions we have, but they are out there working, and we’ll have this done in time for the spring camping season,” said Emmet County administrator John Calabrese. The new replacement sites are even farther eastward, past the southeast edge of a 300-foot safety buffer that is mandated between a pipeline and any permanent structure per U.S. DOT regulations, and will be connected to the rest of the campground by a service road.
