At least 12 people fell ill with gastrointestinal problems at Yosemite National Park, which prompted federal health officials to inspect the national park's food service areas. Several employees and visitors became sick with stomach issues this month, although the immediate cause of the illness wasn’t known. Park officials have begun an operation to do an extensive clean-up and disinfection in the park’s many food establishments which include restaurants, snack stands, and hotels.
For the last four years Yosemite National Park has employed Aramark, a Philadelphia-based food service, to operate its facilities for the last four years. Paulina Dedaj of Fox News relays in her article, "Aramark has been criticized in the past for its services, most recently seeing the Ahwahnee Hotel downgrade from its four-diamond rating by AAA to three diamonds, the Chronical reported." Federal officials said it was too early to identify the illness, or illnesses, or where it might have come from. There was no word on how many were exposed to the mystery illness, and no eating establishments have been closed.
