Travis County Commissioners Court will vote to decide if they will approve an RV park near Hamilton Pool, this week. The county decided to delay voting on the issue last week after nearby residents showed up to speak out against the project because of environmental and safety concerns. The proposed Bentree RV Resort would have 80 pads for recreational vehicles and is expected to go up next to a stretch of Stagecoach Ranch Road, a half-mile from Hamilton Pool.Mary Huber of Statesman, relays in her article "The project has caused concerns for residents, engineers and environmental activists about its effects on the Highland Lakes Watershed and the availability of groundwater, impacts to traffic in the surrounding area and safe evacuation in the event of a wildfire. The issues have caused the county to reconsider how it evaluates RV parks." Residents are concerned as well that the RVs, if forced to evacuate in a wildfire, would cause a bottleneck on Stagecoach Ranch Road ahead of Hamilton Pool Road, the only exit out of the area. The county has said in instances of evacuation, the RVs will be asked to shelter in place, though many were doubtful, in practice, that would actually happen. To read more, click here.
