Seacoastonline.com reports that Sandy Pines Campground in Kennebunkport, Maine has received approval from the local planning board for upgrades, including an expanded main entrance and driveway, additions to the luxury tent area and construction of a new bathhouse near the regular tenting sites. The board limited the number of campsites to no more than 300, mandated the use of only organic fertilizers and pesticides, the use of native plants wherever practical and a donation to fund the local healthy beaches water testing programs in the amount of at least $2,500 per year. The campground is also prohibited from providing a shuttle service to Goose Rocks Beach and agreed not to have bands or amplified music on site after 10 p.m.
Sandy Pines Campground, formerly known as Salty Acres Campground, was owned by the Spang family for decades. Partners Tim Harrington and Deb Lennon purchased it in 2016 and poured $5 million into the facility last year, updating the water, sewer and electric infrastructure to bring it up to current codes.
