KOA Campgrounds, National Forest Camping Closed In North Carolina

KOA has closed several of their campgrounds on the east coast because of coming of Hurricane Florence. Mike Gast of KOA explains in a news article that they have ten campgrounds that will be directly affected by Hurricane Florence. Many of them being right along the eastern seaboard. Since Wednesday, KOA officials have been watching the hurricane conditions, and so other campgrounds near North Carolina could possibly be closed, as well. Campers who were at the ten campgrounds that are now closed have been evacuated.
Additionally, the U.S. Forest Service officials have closed all campgrounds and recreation sites, day use or overnight, in Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests on Thursday, Sept. 13. Seasonal gates will also be closed. The closures come as Hurricane Florence makes its way to the East Coast. The National Weather Service website said Florence's peak winds have decreased slightly but the size of the wind field has increased and life-threatening storm surge and rainfall are expected across the Carolinas. Emergency response teams will be multiplied if an incident or medical emergency were to occur," officials said in a news release.
