The RV lifestyle has become something that many individuals take on as part of their retirement and/or thirst for adventure. Its popularity is not only growing, but a large part of younger generations are becoming more interested in the idea. But how did it all begin? It all started in 1880 with the first motorhome being built by Bristol Wagon and Carriage Works. It later caught attention in the states in the 20's and never lost its fire.
As Daily Press writers Russ And Lori Tic relate in their article: Traveling in this fashion was called "Caravanning." With the advent of automotive power, Caravans started gaining popularity in the United States during the 1920's. A new nickname came about for these travel trailer campers. They were called "Tin can tourists." These had few amenities yet there was no more need to ever set up a heavy canvas tent ever again.
