Federal Highway Administration Supports Automated Vehicles, But Not Without Scrutinous Preparation

DETROIT, Mich. – The US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently launched a series of meetings with key stakeholders to discuss the ramifications of automated vehicles on U.S. roads. First in a series of ‘national dialogues’ on the technology and roadway impacts will be held in Detroit. The dialogues specifically focus on highway automation – essentially, the readiness of highway infrastructure, information and institutional systems for automated vehicles and related technologies. Participants will include industry leaders and other stakeholders who are involved in the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of U.S. roads as well as inviting automotive makers and technology providers.
