The Wall Street Journal Reports On An Increase In Adult Playgrounds In The U.S. For Exercise And Outdoor Activities
North Carolina's Marion Diehl Senior Center recently added a new edition to their property, which is a playground for older adults; and they aren't the only ones. Many places across the U.S. are starting to embrace the concept of an adult playground that will keep seniors and older adults healthy and active. This has been popular for years in other countries such as China and Europe and now, thankfully, is starting to gain popularity in the U.S.
As The Wall Street Journal writer Beth Howard quotes in her article: “They focus on promoting balance, flexibility and range of motion, all of which can help with the functional capabilities of older people and allow them to do more of the things they want to do,” says Cedric X. Bryant, chief science officer of the American Council on Exercise, a nonprofit based in San Diego that promotes physical fitness.
