Cleveland National Park Rethinks Camping Options
Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved through The Lima News' website.
The Lima News reports that the small campground in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, closed for good at the end of the 2019 season. The five tent sites behind the Stanford House had been operated under a Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) by the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, a non-profit that supports park activities, for the past 11 years, and had proved quite popular, although they lacked water and were served by a portable toilet. Park spokesperson Pamela Barnes told the news site that the campground was closed because the CUA was not following National Park Service policy, including a requirement for competitive bidding for such services, and that the area is experiencing resource damage due to heavy use. The park service is currently re-examining what sort of camping it can provide at Cuyahoga Valley. Other activities, including hiking, biking, and a scenic railroad, continue to operate.
