KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Local news outlet WJHL reports that Warriors’ Path, one of Tennessee’s most popular state parks, will undergo extensive upgrades totaling more than $6.4 million to meet visitor demand. “We see 2 million to 2.4 million visitors per year,” Sarah Leedy, Warriors’ Path State Park manager, said in a statement. “Consistently we’ve been hearing things like, ‘Your campsites aren’t big enough for today’s RVs; Your marina is too small; We don’t know where the Visitor Center is; We don’t know where the park office is.'”
The planned upgrades will address these issues and more. Forty new paved, full hookup RV sites will be built in the overflow campground area. A new visitor center with office space for park staff, a gift shop, lobby, and rental assembly space will be created by renovating the current recreation hall on Duck Island. A new marina dock will have covered boat slips, a snack bar, gift shop, rentable space, and public restrooms. Improvements will also be made to shelters and tennis and basketball courts on Duck Island. A new water main will be installed for fire protection. The park service expects the upgrades will be finished by 2021.
