BIG PINE KEY, Fla. â The Associated Press (AP) reports that Sunshine Key RV Resort reopened last week after extensive repairs to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma a year ago. The largest RV resort on the Florida Keys now has 100 of its 399 sites open for travelers, with the remainder due to open by Oct. 1.
Chicago-based Equity Lifestyle Properties, which owns the resort, reportedly spent millions of dollars to repair the damage to the campground and marina caused by Irma’s storm surge and winds. Improvements include new resort amenities, including pool, marina and bait shop, as well as all new water, sewer, electrical and cable lines.
