The owner of Siesta RV Park in Imperial no longer intends to close the trailer park, due to a developer's decision to withdraw plans to build condos at the RV park site. The news comes almost a year after residents were notified about the intent to sell the property. John Ballinger of Siesta RV Park, Inc. assured residents that plans and permits to close the park and rezone the property will not be submitted to the city.David Hernandez of The San Diego Union Tribune relays in his article, "The plans to redevelop the site posed a threat to the affordable cost of living at the park amid rising housing costs in the city and across the state. Residents on fixed sources of income feared they would end up homeless." Siesta RV Park is home to mostly low-income residents and retirees, most of which rely on Supplemental Security Income. Residents at Siesta RV Park are interested in starting up a mobile home owners association to lock in protections and have the option to buy the land. They also plan to push for better management of the park to address a series of issues.
