BEIJING, China - CGTN.com, the website of the China Global Television Network, reports that a desire for new travel experiences and increased wealth among Chinese consumers is driving a boom in RV sales in the country. China had about 70,000 RVs as of the end of 2017, with approximately 20,000 sold, up 12% over the previous year. Another 20,000 were exported by the 150 domestic RV producers operating in China, manufacturing a record 540 models this year.
Fang Dehe, the secretary-general of the RV commission under the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, told CGTN that the sales of RVs in China grew by 100% in the first half of 2018 compared with the same period last year. There are currently about 1,000 large RV campsites in the country, a number that is expected to double by 2020, Fang says.
All in Caravaning (AIC), an annual RV expo held every June in Beijing, attracted nearly 700 RV industry exhibitors this year, with some 300 brands represented, including many from Europe as well as major Chinese producers such as RV International and Brilliance Auto. Organizers say the event has grown to a 35,000 sq meter "extravaganza" over the past seven years.
