SEATTLE, Wash. - REI, a member-owned co-op and outdoor retailer, announced it will break new ground in 2019 with its first-ever outdoor experience center located in a 25,000 square-foot space at Settlers Crossing in North Conway, NH. In addition to selling REI gear, the store will offer gear rentals, equipment demos, workshops, classes and guided outdoor experiences in the White Mountains. The North Conway center, REI’s first location in New Hampshire, is scheduled to open this fall. Another REI store is slated to open in Bedford, NH, later in the year.
Rachel Ligtenberg, REI vice president of Retail, said in a press release that the company sees the new concept as “a one-stop shop for every kind of adventurer. From the seasoned expert who owns their own gear, to the family looking to spend the day trying something new, REI North Conway will be a launching pad for outdoor activities in the White Mountains." REI Adventures, REI’s active adventure travel company, has operated trips in the White Mountains for over 10 years, offering hut-to-hut hiking, ice climbing, and winter treks up Mount Washington.
The REI Co-op currently has nearly 53,000 members in New Hampshire. Members pay $20 for a lifetime membership and receive yearly dividends based on company profits as well as discounts on purchases.
