Parks Victoria announces the ten best parks for birdwatching during the annual National Bird Week occurring from October 22 to 28. Interested guests can follow the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, an annual event during National Bird Week organised by BirdLife Australia. As one of Australia's biggest citizen science events, anyone is welcome to record their bird sightings in their backyards or anywhere in Victoria, Canada. One can record bird sightings and look up birds not recognized using the ‘Aussie Bird Count’ app or on the Aussie Bird Count site.
According to a press release on the Park Victoria website, "With such a diverse range of spectacular natural habitats across more than 4 million hectares of coastal, wetland, forest, alpine, desert and marine parks, it’s no wonder Victoria is home to over half of the 800 bird species in Australia." To assist and guide outdoors enthusiasts along on this special week, Parks Victoria has named parks, wildlife areas, and National Parks to especially visit. Some examples are Point Cook Coastal Park, Collar Historic Area, Serendip Sanctuary, Kinglake National Park, and Greater Bendigo National Park. Kinglake National Park lies on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range, about a mile and a half from Melbourne, offering dramatic views of the Melbourne skyline, Port Phillip Bay, the Yarra Valley and across to the You Yangs. Camping at the National Park is available at Gum Camping area, which you can find out more about here.
