Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved through NRPA's website.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation are teaming up to raise awareness of the critical need to increase habitat for beneficial insects, including honey bees and monarch butterflies, that play a crucial role in pollinating plants. The Parks for Pollinators program will engage the public through community events, public education programs, social media and online communications. As part of the effort, research into public perception of the pollinator crisis, funded by NRPA and the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation, will be conducted at five locations across the country, including park and recreation agencies in Chicago, IL, Houston, TX, Miami, FL, Providence, RI and Seattle, WA.
The Parks for Pollinators campaign kicks off with an online photo contest during the month of June, to coincide with National Pollinator Week, June 18–24, 2018. NRPA members and the public who post a pollinator photo on social media using the hashtag #Parks4Polllinators will be entered for a chance to win a pollinator garden prize pack with gardening products plus tips for at-home actions to support pollinator health. For more details about the contest and the role of pollinators in the environment, visit Park for Pollinators at the NRPA's website.
