The Age Reports On The Growing Popularity Of Forest Schools In Australia, Bringing Kids Outdoors While Teaching Them Life Skills
Many parents in Australia are enrolling their kids in what is called a 'forest school' due to the concern that their kids have lost touch with the outdoors. In these schools, kids are thought outside and get to learn handy life skills.
As The Age writer Henrietta Cook relates in her article: Children will explore the wilderness, have a bigger say in what they learn and have a much more hands-on school experience. This might involve mud, bubbling streams, bark, trees and the elements. Serena Macartney has already filled out an enrolment form for her two-year-old son Sola Raya, whose name is inspired by the sun. "Nature-based play encourages creative thinking, imaginative play and sensory development," she said.
