November NHTSA Recalls Affecting The RV Industry

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports a wide range of recalls currently underway affecting recreational vehicles and towables by a number of manufacturers. Owners who believe they may be affected by these recalls or other issues may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to Safercar.gov. RV manufacturers such as Keystone RV, Thor Motor Coach, Heartland RV, Forest River, and others are included this month on the list. See details below:
Keystone RV Recalls:
· Recall 18-336: 98 2019 Keystone Montana recreational trailers with the Legacy package. The fasteners that secure the disc brake assembly may fail. Dealers will replace the brake disc mounting fasteners, free of charge. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
· Recall 18-335: 7 2019 Crossroads Cruiser recreational trailers on which the water heater installed under the slide out. The water heater’s exhaust location may result in carbon monoxide or propane gas entering the living quarters. The affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory and Keystone will relocate the water heater, free of charge. Keystone customer service: 1-866-425-4369.
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) Recalls:
· Recall RC000162: 1,384 2018-2019 Thor Four Winds, Chateau, and Freedom Elite vehicles which may have inadequate space for the liquid propane (LP) hose between the floor and the metal plate on the refrigerator. The hose may be damaged, possibly creating a propane leak. Dealers will remove a portion of the refrigerator base plate to provide additional clearance for the LP hose, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 11, 2018. TMC customer service: 1-877-855-2867.
· Recall RC000163: 1,769 2017 Tuscany XTE and 2017-2019 Venetian, Aria, Tuscany, and Palazzo motorhomes built on a Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation chassis. The Power Distribution Module (PDM) may have been damaged during manufacturing, possibly resulting in the rear marker lights, brake lights, or turn signals not functioning. The remedy is still under development. Daimler Trucks North America, the manufacturer of the chassis, issued owners an interim notification beginning in October, and will send a second notification when parts become available. · Recall RC000164: 134 2018-2019 Thor Aria and Venetian motorhomes on which the brake caliper mounting bolts may have been insufficiently tightened. Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) authorized service facilities will check and tighten the brake caliper mounting bolts, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 5, 2019. Heartland Recreational Vehicles Recall 99.01.41: 368 2019 Heartland Pioneer recreational trailers, model BH280. A flexible liquid propane (LP) hose was installed on the outside cooktop running into the firebox of the stove instead of a rigid metal tube supply line. Dealers will replace the flexible LP hose with a rigid metal one, free of charge. Heartland customer service: 1-877-262-8032.
Forest River Recalls:
· Recall 68-0822: 4,790 2017-2019 Forest River Georgetown and FR3 motorhomes, 2018-2019 Berkshire motorhomes and 2018 Charleston motorhomes. The driver side motorized windshield roller shade may unroll without warning while driving. Dealers will install a fastener prevent the shade from rolling down while in motion. · Recalls 35 and 5C-0897: 170 2018-2019 Forest River Berkshire recreational vehicles, as well as StarTrans PS2 transit buses and 2019 Glaval Legacy transit buses, with brake caliper mounting bolts insufficiently tightened. Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) authorized service facilities will check and tighten the brake caliper mounting bolts, free of charge. Forest River customer service: 1-574-642-3112.
Triple E Recreational Vehicles Recall CA#9146-1: 78 2019 Triple E Unity motorhomes, models U24MB, U24CBB, U24TB, U24IX and U24FX. The driver-side front trans-mount leveling jack support bracket may contact the brake line causing a brake fluid leak, reducing braking ability. Dealers will relocate the leveling jack support bracket, as necessary, free of charge. Triple E customer service: 1-877-992-9906.
Grand Design RV Recall 910017: 1,765 2018-2019 Reflection fifth wheel trailers, models 28BH and 29RS. The circuit for the power converter may be incorrectly installed with no over-current protection. Dealers will determine if the 50-amp mini breaker at the bus bar is installed correctly and that the circuit is wired correctly, correcting it as necessary, free of charge.
